My creative journey

Discover how I bring ideas to life with vibrant colors, layers of texture, and timeless craftsmanship in every brushstroke.

My watercolour process

Step 1: Inspiration and conceptualization

Every watercolor painting starts with a spark, whether it’s the golden Andalusian light, my Ukrainian roots, or the quiet beauty of everyday life. I sketch out ideas, playing with composition, color harmony, and the emotions I want to convey. This stage ensures that each piece tells a story and feels alive.

Step 2: Sketch in pencil

With a light touch, I map out the composition in pencil, keeping the lines delicate and minimal. This serves as a guide, allowing the watercolor to flow naturally while maintaining structure and balance.

Step 3: Starting with big light washes

The first brushstrokes set the atmosphere. I begin with broad, transparent washes, layering soft colors to establish light, mood, and depth. Watercolor is all about movement, so I let the pigments blend and interact freely.

Step 4: Building color and tone relationships

With each layer, I refine the painting, enhancing contrasts, adding depth, and bringing out the interplay of light and shadow. This step requires patience, as the colors must settle and dry before the next strokes can breathe life into the piece.

Step 5: Finishing details

The final touches bring everything together. I add crisp highlights, subtle textures, and delicate brushstrokes to give the painting its final character. Once dry, the piece is carefully packaged, ready to bring beauty and tranquility into its new home.

Paints
I use high-quality, eco-friendly watercolor paints from trusted brands like Winsor & Newton and Schmincke. Their rich pigments allow for delicate transparency, vibrant color layering, and a lasting brilliance that gives each painting its unique glow.

Brushes
My brush collection includes soft, absorbent round brushes for fluid washes, fine-tipped brushes for details, and flat brushes for bold strokes. This variety lets me control the movement of water and pigment, creating depth and texture with ease.

Paper & Surfaces
I paint on professional-grade, 100% cotton watercolor paper, known for its ability to absorb pigment beautifully while maintaining crisp details. I prefer cold-pressed and rough textures to enhance the natural flow and organic feel of each piece.

Additional Materials
From masking fluid for preserving highlights to natural sponges and fine liners for textural effects, I carefully select tools that enhance my creative process. Sustainability is key, so I prioritize eco-conscious, archival-quality materials to ensure the longevity of my work.
